First of all, if you are reading this, congratulations on getting married 🙂
Unfortunately, marriage procedures in Romania take a little longer than in Turkey. If you decide to get married today, you can probably get an appointment for 1 month later. This article specifically covers the documents required for a Turkish citizen to marry a Romanian spouse candidate. Some documents can be obtained in Romania, while for others you may need to travel to Turkey.
Below I have explained in detail the documents required for Turkish citizens.
Documents Required for Turkish Citizens
1. Passport
- A notarized Romanian translation of your passport is required.
- If you have a residence permit in Romania, the process is easier because you do not need to obtain a new visa.
2. Birth Certificate
- The Romanian translation must be notarized and apostilled.
- This document is obtained from the Civil Registry Offices in Turkey and apostilled in Turkey.
3. Divorce Documents (If applicable)
- If you have been previously married and divorced, a court-certified copy of your divorce decree is required.
- This document must be apostilled in Turkey and translated into Romanian.
4. Marriage License Certificate
- You only need the original Romanian Marriage License Certificate, which you can obtain from the Romanian Embassy.
- This document shows that you are single and that there is nothing preventing you from getting married.
- The validity period is 3 months.
5. Declaration of Marriage
- You must go to a notary in Romania and file a Declaration of Marriage.
- In this declaration:
- Who you will marry,
- Date and place of birth,
- Names of mother and father,
- Current marital status (single/divorced),
- Details such as the surname after marriage are specified.
- You must have your prospective spouse’s identity details with you for the declaration.
6. Health Report
- A health certificate in Romanian must be obtained from a family doctor.
- The report must be labeled “marriageable” and is only valid for 14 days.
7. Goods Agreement (Optional)
- The mutual property regime agreement to be made at the notary is optional.
- This document can be used to keep the property of both parties separate.
Documents Required for Romanian Citizens
1. Identity Document
- Original ID and a copy is required.
2. Birth Certificate
- The original document and a copy must be submitted.
3. Divorce or Widow Certificate (if applicable)
