First of all, if you are reading this, congratulations on getting married 🙂

Unfortunately, marriage procedures in Romania take a little longer than in Turkey. If you decide to get married today, you can probably get an appointment for 1 month later. This article specifically covers the documents required for a Turkish citizen to marry a Romanian spouse candidate. Some documents can be obtained in Romania, while for others you may need to travel to Turkey.

Below I have explained in detail the documents required for Turkish citizens.


Documents Required for Turkish Citizens

1. Passport

  • A notarized Romanian translation of your passport is required.
  • If you have a residence permit in Romania, the process is easier because you do not need to obtain a new visa.

2. Birth Certificate

  • The Romanian translation must be notarized and apostilled.
  • This document is obtained from the Civil Registry Offices in Turkey and apostilled in Turkey.

3. Divorce Documents (If applicable)

  • If you have been previously married and divorced, a court-certified copy of your divorce decree is required.
  • This document must be apostilled in Turkey and translated into Romanian.

4. Marriage License Certificate

  • You only need the original Romanian Marriage License Certificate, which you can obtain from the Romanian Embassy.
  • This document shows that you are single and that there is nothing preventing you from getting married.
  • The validity period is 3 months.

5. Declaration of Marriage

  • You must go to a notary in Romania and file a Declaration of Marriage.
  • In this declaration:
    • Who you will marry,
    • Date and place of birth,
    • Names of mother and father,
    • Current marital status (single/divorced),
    • Details such as the surname after marriage are specified.
  • You must have your prospective spouse’s identity details with you for the declaration.

6. Health Report

  • A health certificate in Romanian must be obtained from a family doctor.
  • The report must be labeled “marriageable” and is only valid for 14 days.

7. Goods Agreement (Optional)

  • The mutual property regime agreement to be made at the notary is optional.
  • This document can be used to keep the property of both parties separate.

Documents Required for Romanian Citizens

1. Identity Document

  • Original ID and a copy is required.

2. Birth Certificate

  • The original document and a copy must be submitted.

3. Divorce or Widow Certificate (if applicable)

  • If previously married, a document proving the dissolution of the marriage (divorce decree or death certificate of the spouse) is required.

4. Health Report

  • Original pre-marital medical certificate must be submitted.

5. Goods Agreement (Optional)

  • A notarized marriage contract is within the scope of the request.

Important Information

  • Language Requirement: If you do not speak Romanian, you must have an authorized interpreter with you for the notary procedures and on the day of the wedding.
  • Validity of All Documents: Some documents, such as your medical report, have a limited validity period. Therefore, it should be planned.
  • Document Check: Once all documents have been collected, you can have your documents approved by the booth representative or via e-mail.
  • Wedding Appointment: Once all documents have been approved, the wedding date can be finalised.
  • Age Limit: The age of marriage is 18 for both men and women.
